Tiny Crochet Witch Hat

So, if you know me, you know that I love Halloween. It’s my favorite time of the year. I love everything spooky, the smell of autumn leaves, and rainy afternoons. Let’s not forget it’s also the season of all things pumpkin spice, and I will absolutely, without shame, try pumpkin spiced anything at least once.

My husband knows just how much I love Halloween. Back when we were still dating, one year on Halloween I was handing out candy like usual. My sister’s family came over as was the norm so that we could see the kid’s costumes. My husband was at a “meeting” that day at work so I was handing out candy on the porch by myself, wearing a tiny crocheted witch hat I had whipped up at the last minute. It was all kind of a blur, but I remember I was distracted and laughing at something someone said, and then a tall person in a masked grim-reaper costume showed up behind me. Just as I slowly started to realize it was my guy, he proposed! So, needless to say, I have quite the soft spot for this little witchy hat, and I hope you love it too!

You can use it as a hat for amigurumi, pop it on top of a mini pumpkin, or you can wear it like I did. It was pretty easy to secure with some bobby pins, or you can definitely sew snap clips to the underside of the hat brim. The band of the hat is made by using surface crochet. I’ve included a photo guide at the end to help show how I made the band.

  • Worsted Weight Yarn in color(s) of your choosing. One for the main hat color and one for the optional band.

Notes

Gauge is not terribly important here.

This pattern is written using US terminology.

Witch hat is made in continuous (spiral) rounds.

Completed hat measures approximately 4 inches tall, with the diameter of the brim measuring approximately 4 1/2 inches.

Please note that I crochet left-handed and my photo guides may reflect this. If you crochet right-handed (with your hook in your right hand), all the stitches are the same and will look the same, you will simply be working in the opposite direction as I am.

Please do not copy or sell my pattern in any way. You are most welcome to sell finished objects made using my pattern. I only ask for you to please credit me and link back when applicable so that other makers can find my pattern as well. Thanks!

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you, I’m happy to help in any way I can!
